The fact that Rex had to unfortunately pull out of the assignment because of his health problem became difficult for the group to re-organise ourselves in different roles and picking things up where Rex has taken off. For that reason, we were kind of struggling to complete an quality animation.
However, mostly of the time we discussed, analysed and refined our opinions and findings in flash which made a lot things easier.
For example, we had problems with using the "bone tool" (taught in week 5) in flash where every time when we try to move around the body structure of the character, it always happen to change the whole character in every frame. As this became a really frustrating issue for our last scene, which is the climax of the whole movie. It shows how Jamaal can dance after a year's learning from the G-Penguin in the Ice Jungle.
Attempts in flash...
We decided to accomplish the hardest part in the animation first so after that part everything should become a bit more easier. And we thought it would of been the dance part for the last scene.
Last scene:
Part 1) There were a few problems with this trial test on the monkey dancing part, where we were planning to use to the bone tool to alternate body parts of the monkey however it was not as successful as we thought it would be. By moving and alternating parts of the body after converting them in to a symbol it changes all the shape that it was in in previous frames then when we try to use the bone tool in the symbol and animating it the movements did not stop and it kept looping itself.
Part 2) After asking and re-adjusting the character with the bone tool we finally got the movements coming along.
However the movements inside this animation wasn't as smooth as we thought it could be. And after using the bone tool in flash it somehow changes the character's body parts in a strange way, for example, it would lose the body's outlines, not being able to bend them to much otherwise the shapes of the body part goes weird, etc.
Part 3) Finally, after showing to a number of different people in class and asking advises, the results were not as great as we thought so we decided to use another way to achieve the effect which was to break apart all the main parts of the body, for example, the upper arms, lower arms, hands and then the same goes for the leg parts of the characters. Then we started to move each parts of the body to achieve the dancing moves. This way it seems to be smoother to the eye and also more consistency in the body parts.
