Animated Title...

Last Dancing Scene...

This final scene was the first to be completed and it was the most time consuming scene throughout the whole animation. The movements and dancing of the character were incredibly hard and frustrating. Every little movement was considered to create the effect that the character is dancing.

Finally all different scenes are coming along and almost finishing, the last part is getting every single scenes and putting sound tracks along them.

One-line Synopsis: Jamaal leaves everything behind and finds himself on an epic adventure to follow his dream to be the first monkey R&B superstar.

Synopsis: In a ghetto home where food is the foundation of his family’s happiness, Jamaal is constantly under pressure from his father to become a world class chef. However, this is not the path of fame he wants to take; since the bliss age of four, he has always aspired to be the world’s first monkey R&B superstar.
Growing up, Jamaal has always heard stories about the 'ice jungle', where it is said a mysterious musically talented legend can be found. Along with his best friend Rachel, they decide to leave home in search of the legend in hope of something great.

Together, they depart for an epic journey and uncover the mysterious ice jungle to see the stories are true. Little do they know the legendary G-Penguin, the master of singing and dancing, is already awaiting them ready to unleash their hidden potential. They undertake continuous vigorous training day and night with the G-Penguin and realise their true capabilities to move to the groove and sing soulful harmonies.

As day by day passes in the ice jungle, the legendary G-Penguin allows them to leave one year later to return home and showcase to Jamaal’s father and the rest of the jungle their new brand new swag. Will Jamaal and Rachel’s fresh singing and dancing skills create a rumble in the jungle? Or was all the training with the legendary penguin a waste?

Monkey Movements takes you through a humorous adventure of passion, excellence and integrity to achieve a dream to be the best (and maybe the only) monkey R&B superstar ever to exist.

Organizing Scenes...
In our original story board the were 12 main scenes, however it appeared to us that if animated all the scenes in our story board it would no doubt go over our time limit that were provided.

Therefore we decided to cut out some useless scenes, for example:
We cut out scenes 2, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 11. However, we added in simplified scenes instead to connect the few major important part of the whole animation.

Scene1: Introducing Animation (Minor Scene)
Scene 2: Introducing Animation (Minor Scene)
Scene 3: Animated Title (Minor Scene)
Scene 4: Decided to run away and brings Rachel (Major Scene)
Scene 5: Explains to Rachel about the Ice Jungle, the master and taking her together (Major Scene)
Scene 5.5: In search of Ice Jungle (Minor Scene)
Scene 6: Discovers the Ice Jungle (Minor Scene)
Scene 7: Discovers the G-Penguin and trains(Major Scene)
Scene 8: Preforms in his own Jungle (Major Scene)

Background and Enivornment Design..
Drawn by Douglas..

We used this as a guild for all our enirovments and backgrounds in the animation, from this we moved and changed sizes of trees, grass and mountains to create our scenes.

Trouble...
The fact that Rex had to unfortunately pull out of the assignment because of his health problem became difficult for the group to re-organise ourselves in different roles and picking things up where Rex has taken off. For that reason, we were kind of struggling to complete an quality animation.

However, mostly of the time we discussed, analysed and refined our opinions and findings in flash which made a lot things easier.
For example, we had problems with using the "bone tool" (taught in week 5) in flash where every time when we try to move around the body structure of the character, it always happen to change the whole character in every frame. As this became a really frustrating issue for our last scene, which is the climax of the whole movie. It shows how Jamaal can dance after a year's learning from the G-Penguin in the Ice Jungle.

Attempts in flash...
We decided to accomplish the hardest part in the animation first so after that part everything should become a bit more easier. And we thought it would of been the dance part for the last scene.

Last scene:
Part 1) There were a few problems with this trial test on the monkey dancing part, where we were planning to use to the bone tool to alternate body parts of the monkey however it was not as successful as we thought it would be. By moving and alternating parts of the body after converting them in to a symbol it changes all the shape that it was in in previous frames then when we try to use the bone tool in the symbol and animating it the movements did not stop and it kept looping itself.

Part 2) After asking and re-adjusting the character with the bone tool we finally got the movements coming along.

However the movements inside this animation wasn't as smooth as we thought it could be. And after using the bone tool in flash it somehow changes the character's body parts in a strange way, for example, it would lose the body's outlines, not being able to bend them to much otherwise the shapes of the body part goes weird, etc.

Part 3) Finally, after showing to a number of different people in class and asking advises, the results were not as great as we thought so we decided to use another way to achieve the effect which was to break apart all the main parts of the body, for example, the upper arms, lower arms, hands and then the same goes for the leg parts of the characters. Then we started to move each parts of the body to achieve the dancing moves. This way it seems to be smoother to the eye and also more consistency in the body parts.
